In January 2008 Dave Green and Rick DeCurtins took a flight to Edmonton, Canada to drive another 30 mintues North to the small town of Villenueve. Global Aircraft had 2 C-47's left on the ramp and we quickly went to work inspecting the aircraft in 7 Degree weather. Shortly after a 36 hour vist and inspection we decided on which aircraft was going to be coming home with us shortly, 43-49531.
In May of 2008 a 5 man crew went up to start the 2 week process of going through all the systems and pulling all the panels to inspect, indentify and repair any and all problems that wouldn't allow us to fly home. The crew was, Dave Green, Rick DeCurtins, Craig Abernethy, Dave Myers, Leigh Smith and Matt Anger. Leigh Smith is our Pilot who joined us the last few days to fly it out. The FAA prevented us from flying it home at that time. It wouldn't be for another 4 months until the red tape was cut.
September 20th, 2008, Rick DeCurtins, Dave Myers, Matthew Anger and Leigh Smith all left for Edmonton to bring her home finally. A DAR ( Designated Airworhtiness Rep ) accompanied them to Edmonton to inspect the aircraft for the FAA and sign off our ferry flight permit. On September 22nd, 2008 43-49531 ( now known as Aluminum Mistress ) took to the skies, towards the U.S. for the first time in 60 years. The next day, September 23rd, 2009 she landed, at Camarillo Airport, in Southern California, where she'll put down for restoration for the next 16 months.
